The Wisconsin DOT will begin roadway improvements in and near Whitewater starting April 1, 2026, with work expected to continue through late June/early July.
Here’s what to expect:
🔹 Stage 1 & 3: Detours in place (County Hwy N & Hwy 26)
🔹 Stage 2: Traffic remains open with flagging
🔹 Improvements include new asphalt, curb/gutter work, and upgraded sidewalks & ramps
📢 Electronic message boards will be posted one week before closures.
Please plan ahead, follow posted detours, and use extra caution in construction zones.

Whitewater residents: it’s that time of year again! The City of Whitewater Compost Site is officially reopening for the season.
📅 Opening Dates & Hours
• Saturdays starting April 4 — 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• Wednesdays starting April 8 — 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Please arrive with enough time to unload. The site closes promptly at the posted hours. The compost site is available to City of Whitewater residents only. Here's additional information:
🍂 Yard Waste Drop-Off
• Yard waste must be removed from bags, cans, and containers.
• Please take all containers home. Do not leave them at the site.
🪵 Compost & Wood Chips Available
• Residents may collect compost or wood chips (self‑loading).
• A City loader will be available starting Saturday, April 4 and the first Saturday of each month.
• No loader on July 4, it will be available July 11 instead.
🚫 Reminder: Yard waste must not be placed on city streets or rights‑of‑way except on designated days, per City Ordinance 12.08.010.

The City of Whitewater – Department of Public Works will collect bagged leaves and yard waste on:
📅 March 30 – April 2, 2026
📅 April 6 – April 10, 2026
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Collection dates are subject to change if we get accumulating snow
Yard Waste Guidelines: Yard waste includes leaves, grass clippings, and garden/yard debris. All materials must be placed in 30‑gallon or smaller biodegradable, clear, or transparent bags.
🚫 Yard waste in non‑transparent or black bags will NOT be collected.
🍁 Bio-Bags are available at the Finance Department window in the fall only.
Placement Instructions:
· For collection beginning March 30, place bags at the curb no earlier than Saturday, March 28.
· For collection beginning April 6, place bags at the curb no earlier than Saturday, April 4.
· All bags must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 9.
📘 Reminder: Per City Ordinance 12.08.010, depositing yard waste on city streets or rights‑of‑way is prohibited, except on designated days.
