The volunteer fire department provides fire protection for the City from one fire station located at 312 West Whitewater Street.
The Fire Department began in 1871. The Rescue Squad portion began in 1927.
There are 4 ambulances and 13 fire apparatus. The department typically responds to 400 fire calls per year and 1,500 rescue calls annually.

The City of Whitewater has a Volunteer Ambulance Service providing Basic and Intermediate rescue response. Volunteer personnel are registered EMTs utilizing state of the art ambulances, medical and telecommunications equipment. Along with delivery of professional pre-hospital care, the EMTs are committed to prevention of medical emergencies through proactive community education programs and demonstrations.
