Whitewater, Wis. June 12, 2018 – The City of Whitewater celebrates the grand opening of their newest dog park, “Bark Park” with a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday, June 13th at 5pm.

The new dog park located on the corner of Jefferson Street and Starin Road, opened last week in Whitewater. The fenced in park has two spaces, one for small and medium sized dogs and another for larger dogs.

City Manager, Cameron Clapper will take part in the ribbon cutting ceremony and welcome community members to the new park. City staff will hand out “Doggy Bags” with treats for the dogs in attendance.

The park currently supplies picnic tables, benches and garbage cans with the added bonus of Mutt Mitts for easy pick-up after your dog. The gravel parking will be paved in the future allowing for 8-10 parking stalls with a stall meeting ADA compliance requirements so all citizens can use the park.

The City has many additional plans for the new dog park including an information kiosk, play features for dogs and possible design additions including pavers with paw prints. Other ideas include allowing citizens to donate shade trees in memory of beloved pets or family members and to locate and utilize the appropriate water main in order to add a water spigot.

“Although the park may not have all the amenities completed at this time, we wanted to open the gates as soon as we could,” said Parks & Recreation Director, Eric Boettcher. “With this beautiful weather we have been having, we just couldn’t wait to open the park. We are excited to see both dogs and dog enthusiasts enjoy this new facility.”

Current hours of use are dawn to dusk and rules are posted for all visitors to view.

If you would like to make a donation to the Whitewater Bark Park, please make checks payable to the City of Whitewater and place Bark Park in the memo. Call Parks & Recreation Director, Eric Boettcher at 262-473-0122 with additional questions.
